Innovation

VIB.AI turns advances in artificial intelligence and computational biology into technologies with real-world potential.
Together with our Innovation & Business at VIB, we help promising ideas move from research to validation, partnership, licensing, or venture creation.

From discovery to opportunity

Laura De Cnop, Business Development Manager at VIB, works closely with VIB.AI researchers to identify where new AI technologies can create value.

That can mean shaping a proof of concept, connecting with industry, exploring intellectual property, or defining the right path towards valorization.

Powered by the VIB AI Studio

The VIB AI Studio helps bridge the gap between academic research and real-world application.

It supports promising AI models, software, and data-driven methods through three key steps:

  • Develop
Shape technologies around clear biological and translational needs.
  • Validate & de-risk
Test robustness, reproducibility, interpretability, and real-world relevance.
  • Translate
Prepare innovations for licensing, partnerships, or new ventures.

CellTuned

Proof-of-concept projects help demonstrate whether a promising research result can become a useful technology.

VIB.AI researchers can tap into the AI Studio, VIB Technologies, VIB Innovation & Business, and funding instruments such as ERC Proof of Concept to further validate and de-risk their innovations.

One example is CellTuned, emerging from the Stein Aerts Lab. It combines regulatory genomics, single-cell biology, and machine learning to better understand how genomic sequence shapes cell state, with potential applications in target discovery and precision medicine.
